Paying Down Credit Card Debt - 5 Key Points

Credit card debt can be extremely uncomfortable - even downright painful. Long periods of heavy debt can put a strain on your relationships, make it difficult to qualify for low-interest loans, and keep you from attaining overall financial freedom. Fortunately, there are a number of no-nonsense, time-tested ways to conquer credit card debt. The following are 5 key points for eliminating your credit card debt and getting on the road to financial health.

Tip #1: Envision yourself each day as being debt-free: If you are like most people deep in debt, you have fallen into the vicious cycle of spending, on average, more than you earn each month. Hint: to be debt-free, you need to think like a debt-free person! The right mindset is essential for preparing yourself to automatically take the right daily actions to eliminate your credit card debt. It is important to condition your mind into thinking that debt is unsavory, ugly, and unattractive, while having money to invest means freedom and peace of mind. Exercise: each morning when you get up, each night before you go to bed, and at various points throughout the day, envision yourself as your life will be when you are fully debt-free. How does it feel? Now, hold onto that feeling the next time you are tempted by an unnecessary purchase.

Tip #2: Pay down high-interest credit cards first: Sign up for any low-fee balance transfer offers offered by credit card companies when doing so means moving your debt to a lower-interest card. Then, rank your various cards for which you carry a balance from higher interest to lower interest. Focusing on rigorously paying what you can each month toward your highest-interest cards first and pay only the minimum balance due on your other cards. Most experts agree that this is the fastest, smartest way to pay down your credit cards.

Tip #3: Prepare a monthly budget: Getting a handle on your monthly expenditures is absolutely essential. Exercise: make two lists for monthly expenditures: need-to-haves and nice-to-haves. Then, commit to prioritizing your spending each month in this order: 1. need-to-haves first (including paying minimum balances on lowest-interest credit cards!), 2. payments toward high-interest credit cards next, and 3. the occasional nice-to-have goodie for yourself as a reward for working so hard to pay down your debt.

Tip #4: Pay cash whenever possible: This sounds like a no-brainer, right? The fact is that many people who are heavily in credit card debt continue to use their cards each month to pay regular expenses. While using and then paying down your credit cards fully each month can be an advisable element in an overall strategy to improve your credit scores, for now it is best to stay away completely from charging anything onto your cards. Get into the habit of paying cash each month, as doing so will give you a better feel for the relationship between what you make and what you spend each month.

Tip #5: Stop using all but one credit card: Most people get into credit card debt by regularly using too many cards. Credit cards are not bad in and of themselves and having a large line of credit can help your credit score. But, credit card companies make most of their money off of us when we start charging more than we can pay off! So, put all of your credit cards away in a closet, except for one which you can use for dire emergencies.

Living Wills: Will Your Living Will Survive You?

A living will is also known as an advance directive, and it is a written document indicating a person's wishes in the event that they are reduced to a vegetative state by some accident or trauma, and whether doctors treating them should go to all efforts necessary to keep them legally living, or to "allow nature to take its course".

Unlike a legal will, courts have not generally recognized the significance of living wills, and the existence of one would not necessarily be legally binding. Most countries in the world have introduced little or no legislation to codify their status for the judiciary. That said, much of what judges and magistrates do is apply the intention of the law to new, unique situations. Therefore, the presence of a living will would factor very heavily in any deliberation by a judge, should your living will be challenged.

One thing a living will cannot do - and this is probably why lawmakers have been reluctant to legislate - is protect a doctor from malpractice, should she be put into a position where she has to decide between attempting to treat a patient who may recover, and obeying the wishes you expressed in your living will.

Of course, there are always circumstances and events which we could never foresee, particularly where death is concerned. Where someone like a community spouse or family member has doubts about whether you would make the same decision now, knowing all the facts, they have grounds to challenge the contents of a living will in a court. If they were able to produce a compelling explanation, they would have a good chance of convincing most courts.

Since there is no legal specification for living wills, there are no official government or municipality forms to pay for and fill out. You might notice, however, that many law firms give free living will forms out on their websites. Such firms have usually just drawn up a fairly standard written declaration that expresses your intentions should any of a number of possible things render you unable to make or express a decision at the time. Most of the living will forms offered at no charge are as robust a legal document as an advance directive can be.

Living will forms have a fairly similar structure addressing a number of key areas: Choice of whether or not to prolong life; whether painkillers should be administered as needed regardless of the chances that this will reduce or end the life of the patient; contact details of your personal doctor; whether you wish to donate organs, which ones, and for what reasons; and finally a declaration that it is your wish and right to refuse medical treatment, and that you have an informed idea of what this means. Usually a living will form includes areas for witnesses and an advising physician to sign the document alongside yours.

Unfortunately, no matter how shrewd a legal document you are able to craft, the advance directives issued in living wills are legally powerless. Ethicists grapple with the extra complications that the instructions of a living will introduce, while most lawmakers dare not tread near the issue.

At the end of the day, if there's a conflict between the informed advice of the doctor, the wishes of the family, and the advance directives of the patient, the outcome will not be satisfactory to all involved.

While living willsare probably the best way of making sure our wishes and dignity are maintained in the event of a medical catastrophe, there's very little law giving force to these advance directives. Contact http://www.melcherslawfirm.com for more information.

Seven Key Qualities of Successful Entrepreneurs

A recent poll conducted by Forbes magazine shows that majority of its readers would prefer to become a billionaire rather than a Nobel peace prize winner, a great scientist or a famous athlete. There is no secret that most of the average people dream about getting rich albeit very few makes any real effort to become one.

According to statistics, more than 100 thousand people become millionaires each year in the United States alone! Overwhelming majority out of them is self-made and owners of business. This means, if you would like to pursue your goal of becoming rich, you have to start your own venture.

Becoming an entrepreneur is not an easy task! There are certain qualities that are absolutely necessary if you would like to become successful in your business ventures. Some of these qualities are built-in parts of your inherent personality, and some of them get developed over time. Knowing these characteristics and identifying your weak ones - those, which need strengthening - will, eventually, help you become a successful entrepreneur.

1. Common Sense

Studies show that most successful businessmen consider common sense as the foundation of their success. Common sense is defined as an ability to make sound judgments on the issues, which you encounter in everyday situations.

Good judgment depends on acquired knowledge and past experience. The combination of these two creates necessary prerequisites in developing common sense in a person. Common sense allows you to understand complex issues in simpler terms and get into the core of a problem.

2. Specialized Knowledge of your field

It is easier to start a successful business, if you have deep knowledge of the business field that you decide to pursue. About half of all home-based start-ups are launched by people who decide to use the knowledge, which they gained from their previous work experience of a particular niche area.

Philip Green, a billionaire, who made his fortune in garments retailing, claims that corner stone of his success is his knowledge of rag trade. He, presumably, can price a fabric simply by rubbing it between his fingers. Just by looking at a rack of coats he can predict which ones won't sell next season. That's the kind of knowledge required in order to become successful in entrepreneurship.

Around 45 percent of all start-ups fail to survive more than two years. One of the main reasons is many entrepreneurs do not accumulate needed industry knowledge before jumping into business world.

3. Self-confidence

Self confidence is a key entrepreneurial skill for success. It is easy to become demoralized, frustrated and resentful if you lack self-confidence.

Self-confidence is concerned with how a person feels about his ability. A successful entrepreneur believes in his abilities. He is not scared to explore un-chartered territories, take risk and take difficult decisions.

Self-confidence, however, is not a personal trait that either you have or you don't. A person can have high self-confidence in one situation and totally lack in another. This is one of those skills that can be developed by training.

4. Ability to get things done

Successful entrepreneurs are persistent and hardworking. They master self-discipline to such extent that if a work is important and related to their goals, they will, eventually, complete it.

Getting things done is the vital link between motivations and their outcome. At times, entrepreneurs force themselves to choose work over fun, a boring job against a pleasant one, working on tax papers rather than reading a glamour magazine. This requires a self-control that many people simply fail to develop in them.

5. Creativity

Creativity is the ability to use your insights and come up with new solutions to old problems, get things done in a different way or find a totally different approach for conventional things to work together. Entrepreneurs need creative thinking ability virtually in everything. Each new product, each new marketing method, each business decision - all these are fertile ground for creative thinking.

Often, entrepreneurs become immensely successful thanks to one single creative idea!

6. Ability to lead

Successful entrepreneurs are capable of leading people and get work done by them. They use a combination of various methods - effective motivation, planning, coaching and evaluation - to lead people. They are concerned about the wellbeing of others and easily get along with people.

7. Self reliance

Successful entrepreneurs try to take full responsibility for their actions. They know that what they are today, and what they are going to be tomorrow, depend solely on themselves, as it is the outcome of their own choices and decisions. They are proactive people, who set goals, walk an extra mile to achieve them and rely, primarily, on their own resources and abilities.

If you would like to check out if your personality fits the typical entrepreneurial profile, the following site has questionnaire that will help you asses your entrepreneurial skills:

If, even, you have all these great qualities and you feel quite confident about yourself, you will never know how good an entrepreneur you are, unless you give it a try! So, the best way to prove your abilities, is to jump start a new venture!

Internet Opportunity Passive Income Home Business

What has internet opportunity anything to do with passive income and home business? To many friends of mine, they are still not aware of the millions dollar opportunities they are facing every day. One day, I checked if they were receptive to an internet opportunity home business by asking if they had any intention of earning a passive income over the internet and their first reaction was a silly grin.

I could sense that they are taking internet business lightly and with a certain extent of distrust. Even if they were to join any internet business opportunity, it will forever be of lower priority than their current job. I have been pondering why many people are taking a job working for others more serious than a job they can take ownership of. It seems to many a home business is more likely to be of past-time nature rather than a serious commitment. They are simply unaware of the massive recurring profits and opportunities they can gain from a small internet home business.

Should I take it that they are living a life of contentment? I doubt so as many are still looking for opportunities to make that extra income by working overtime after office hours and over weekends. I simply do not understand when they can actually use the weekend to pick up some internet marketing skills like traffic generation strategies or website building. In fact, many are short changing their lifes by working too hard not for themselves. They work overtime and over the weekends as if the extra hundreds or thousands can help them attain financial freedom in five years time. This is absurd and it is impossible. However, knowing a way to earn passive income from the internet substantially raises your chance of mastering financial independence.

What really happens? I believe it is a matter of belief system or they are simply ignorant of any internet home business opportunity. Some are aware of the opportunities but were simply uninterested as they have other more important priorities in life. I respect their decision for that. For the ignorant ones, I believe we should convey the importance and feasibility of planning an internet business so that they will not miss out on any opportunity to profit from and master their financial future.
